Good morning,!
We are thrilled to announce that we have been recognized for the fifth consecutive year with a James Beard award. It’s important to us to share how you can help us create a new category to support indigenous-owned and operated businesses that specialize in indigenous cuisine. This new category will contribute to an alliance for what we call “New American cuisine.” We have several chefs in mind, such as Sean Sherman and Justin Pioche, who are on the same path as us, and we’d like to give them recognition as well. I’ve included a video that explains how to create this new category and how to submit our restaurant for this award.
Suggested category:
Best Emerging American Restaurant 2024 – Northern New Mexico

Redefining American Cuisine
A Culinary Movement by Native American Chefs
We are among a new alliance of Native American Chefs who are leading a culinary movement that is reshaping and Redefining American Cuisine. With a deep respect for their ancestral heritage, these chefs are blending traditional pre-colonial ingredients from North, Central, and South America, infusing them with a modern twist that is capturing the essence of the present while honoring the past.
At the heart of this movement is the key phrase “Redefining American cuisine,” which encapsulates their mission to transform the way we perceive and experience food. By delving into the rich tapestry of indigenous ingredients that were cherished by their forebears, these chefs are crafting a new narrative for American gastronomy.
Embracing Indigenous Heritage
At La Luna @ La Fonda, we honor indigenous American heritage through our culinary journey. Led by owner Maria, our restaurant is a celebration of family, tradition, and wholesome nourishment. Maria’s personal journey, driven by a desire to help her children connect with their roots in Taos, inspires every dish we craft.
Culinary Diversity and Inclusivity
Dive into a world of culinary diversity with our inclusive menu, featuring a range of vegan dishes crafted with indigenous American ingredients. La Luna embraces diversity while staying true to tradition, inviting all guests to indulge in our flavorful offerings, whether they have dietary preferences or not.
Sustainable Sourcing and Community Support
We are committed to sustainability, sourcing locally grown, sustainable, and organic products indigenous to the Americas. By doing so, we not only preserve ancestral traditions but also support the communities that cultivate these ingredients, ensuring a positive impact beyond the plate.
Harmonizing Tradition and Innovation
At La Luna, we harmonize tradition with innovation, creating a culinary symphony that bridges the past and the future. Join us in redefining American cuisine as we celebrate heritage, family, and the rich tapestry of indigenous American flavors at La Luna @ La Fonda.
