Tom Morgan
La Luna @ La Fonda: Dedicated Artist
A Blues Journey from Detroit to Taos
La Luna @ La Fonda de Taos is thrilled to feature Tom Morgan, a retired teacher and artist whose journey and music are as profound as the roots of the blues itself. Born and raised amidst the vibrant sounds of Detroit, Tom’s early influences were steeped in the soul of Motown and the gritty rock and roll of the ’60s. His music, however, found its true calling in the rich heritage of the blues, drawing inspiration from the legendary Robert Johnson and spanning the emotional spectrum between the deep Delta blues and the brighter, folk-inflected Piedmont style.
A Journey of Resilience: Basketball, Busking, and Beyond
Tom’s musical journey is a testament to resilience and passion. A former college basketball player, his career was cut short by a back injury, leading him to discover his true passion for music during his recovery. His journey took him from busking across Europe to a brief stint in modeling, and finally to the shores of San Diego. Embracing his role as a teacher, he combined his love for music with community service, creating a School-of-Rock inspired program for underprivileged urban students.
Finding Solace in Taos: A New Chapter Begins
Despite the setbacks, including his forced departure from the surfing scene due to his back injury, Tom’s spirit remained unbroken. In 2023, after retiring as a teacher, he found solace in the mountains and musical community of Taos, where he continues to share his joy and passion for blues music.
